  1. The “alternatives” that are available OTC do not include Xanax (alprazolam). Also, BZD’s do not increase GABA in the brain, they function as a modulator at GABAa, which increases the chloride depolarization & along with the spinal cord, work in the glial cells to act as a primary inhibitor of nerve impulses and voltage-gated channels, as glutamate (through P-5’P (PLP)) works as it’s derivative and functional opposite. TCA’s and SSRI’s are devilishly pushed for anxiety because there’s no risk of abuse; although, they are as hard to get off, and fundamentally change the neurotransmitter function in the cleft and pre-synaptic action of the brain. Beta-blockers contradict many medications, and can cause a plethora of side-effects, as well as only acting peripherally, on the physical symptoms of stress,(“little blue pill,””momma’s little helper,” mainly blood pressure and tremor) they aren’t at risk for abuse or dependence.
